This Month's Guest Speaker


Ruth Ann Vleugels, MD MPH MBA
Vice Chair for Academic Affairs, Department of Dermatology
Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School
Brigham and Women's Hospital
Boston, MA

Dr. Vleugels is dedicated to patient care, clinical innovation, teaching, and research in the arena of autoimmune skin disease. She serves as a Vice-Chair for Academic Affairs of the Department of Dermatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). She founded and currently leads the Connective Tissue Disease Clinics at BWH Dermatology and co-leads the Rheumatology-Dermatology Clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Vleugels also directs the robust Autoimmune Skin Disease Program at BWH Dermatology. Her primary education leadership roles include serving as Associate Director for Education at BWH Dermatology, Program Director of the Dermatology-Rheumatology Fellowship, and Co-Leader of the Immunity in Defense and Disease at Harvard Medical School. In addition, Dr. Vleugels is a member of the Clinical Research Program Steering Committee at BWH Dermatology and completed a Masters in Public Health degree at the Harvard School of Public Health, providing me with the tools necessary to rigorously study the clinical aspects of autoimmune skin disease. She earned her medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed her residency in dermatology in 2008 at Harvard University.

Gleacher Center

The May meeting takes place on the 6th floor of the Gleacher Center, the University of Chicago's business school conference center in downtown Chicago.  It is located at 450 Cityfront Plaza Drive on the Chicago River west of Columbus Drive.  The NBC Tower is immediately adjacent to the Gleacher Center.

Although we are not able to offer discounted parking through CDS, most of the parking lots nearby have attractive "early bird" pricing.

So that we can better plan the meeting, please register no later than 8 a.m. on Monday, May 16.  Registrations received after that time are considered late.  Attendees who pre-register will be guaranteed a protocol book and lunch.  Those who register late normally will receive these items, but it is not guaranteed.

Annual CDS dues includes attendance at the monthly meeting.  There is no charge for members in good standing with paid dues.  Residents & fellows in training are not charged, and they are automatically registered for each meeting.  (Residents who are unable to attend are asked to contact the CDS office so we can make the appropriate adjustments.)

Educational Items

Course Director:  David Reid, MD; Chair, Rush University

Target Audience:  Practicing dermatologists, dermatology residents and fellows.

Conference participants are asked to turn in their CME attendance form and evaluation form before leaving the meeting.  A CME credit certificate will be mailed following the conference.  Residents also must return the attendance form in order to be marked "present."  Thank you for your assistance in this important activity.
